The source describes this installation for 2015–2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 205 and GLC253. The parts photograph labels the C-Class version as W205; other comparison photographs and module labels use “C205.” Confirm the actual vehicle, door trim and kit version before installation. These source labels do not establish coverage of every body style, lighting option or model year, or of a later vehicle generation.
The source distinguishes versions for factory ambient lighting from versions for retrofitted ambient lighting. Each version is intended to follow the matching ambient-light system; the versions must not be mixed. C-Class and GLC tweeter assemblies are also model-specific and must not be mixed.
For the C-Class version shown, the source requires trimming the rotating-tweeter mounting tab. It states that this trimming is not required for the GLC version. The source does not give cutting dimensions, a cutting-tool specification or the remaining-tab retention criteria. Obtain the exact kit instructions before trimming.
1. Parts overview
Figure 1 shows two rotating-tweeter assemblies and two rotation-control modules. Its numbered key is:
- 01: 3D rotating tweeters.
- 02: Rotation-control modules.
These are component reference numbers, rather than connector or terminal numbers. The source describes 64-color lighting and shows a C205-labeled module; this label does not establish that one module is interchangeable between all listed vehicles or ambient-light systems.
2. Identify the correct product version
Figure 2 contains three comparison photographs, from top to bottom:
- GLC253 rotating tweeter, front view.
- C205 rotating tweeter, front view.
- E213 rotating tweeter, front view.
The E213 photograph is a comparison reference in the source. It does not extend this C-Class 205 / GLC253 installation procedure to the E-Class. Select the vehicle-specific assembly and the matching factory-lighting or retrofit-lighting version before proceeding.
3. Remove the door panel and existing tweeter trim
The source photographs illustrate one door and module arrangement. Confirm the removal and electrical-isolation procedure for the actual vehicle before disconnecting components. The source does not provide power-isolation instructions or a complete connector pinout.
Figure 3 contains ten panels. Read them from top to bottom:
- The retaining screws and large clip for the front door panel are marked in the photograph.
- Use a T30 driver to remove the front door-panel retaining screws.
- Use a plastic trim tool at the lower inner corner of the door panel to release the clips.
- Release the upper retaining tabs on the inner side of the door panel.
- When pulling the outer side of the panel away, release the large clip at the marked location; follow the arrows shown in the source photograph.
- Release the interior door-handle cable from its retaining mount.
- Disconnect the door midrange-speaker connector.
- Disconnect the blue connector linking the door panel to the door-control module.
- Release the existing tweeter-trim clips and remove the trim for replacement with the rotating tweeter.
- Reference view of the corresponding clip positions on the existing trim.
The source does not specify a door-panel screw count or tightening torque. Retain the original fasteners and connectors for reassembly.
4. Prepare the C-Class mounting tab
Figure 4 shows the source's C-Class trimming reference. The caption calls for trimming the triangular edges on both sides of the uppermost mounting tab so that the assembly can seat. The circled area identifies the location; the photograph does not provide cutting dimensions or establish how much material may be removed.
Apply this instruction only to the matching C-Class kit after its trimming and retention requirements have been confirmed. The source explicitly says that GLC mounting tabs do not require this trimming.
5. Install and connect the rotating tweeter
Figure 5 contains eight photo panels, from top to bottom:
- Align the rotating-tweeter retaining tabs with the existing mounting positions.
- Ensure that the retaining tabs engage at those positions during installation.
- Connect the rotating tweeter's two-wire speaker lead through the midrange-speaker connector, as shown for the source kit.
- The source shows the large blue adapter connector connected through door-control-module connector No. 6 to obtain the signal. No. 6 refers to the module's connector position in the photograph, rather than terminal or pin 6.
- The next photograph shows the light-head wiring connection for the version that matches retrofitted ambient lighting, using the white connectors shown. Their cavity functions and pin numbering are not provided. This photograph is not a complete wiring instruction for the factory-ambient-light version.
- Arrange the wiring harness and secure the rotation-control module in the door area shown.
- Reference photograph of the installed rotating tweeter with a green illuminated ring.
- The source calls for reassembly followed by a function test before considering the installation complete; its final photograph shows other green ambient-light components, without specifying the test procedure or acceptance criteria.
Confirm the kit's actual adapters, connector cavities and lighting-system version before connection. Connector color and the number printed next to a module socket do not define individual wire functions. Before final reassembly, confirm that the connectors are seated and that the trim does not pinch the harness.
6. Troubleshooting
The source gives the following diagnostic suggestions. It does not specify a safe substitution procedure or a complete diagnostic sequence. Use only compatible components and the confirmed vehicle/kit electrical procedure; the observations alone do not establish a failed part.
- No sound: check the wiring, connector pins and existing audio system. For a fault affecting one side, the source suggests exchanging the tweeter positions to investigate whether the symptom follows the speaker or remains with the wiring.
- Light does not illuminate: check the wiring, connector pins and the door ambient light. For a fault affecting one side, the source suggests exchanging compatible light heads to investigate whether the symptom follows the light head or remains with the wiring.
- Abnormal extension or retraction: check connector seating and the wiring connections.
- One side rotates in the opposite direction: the source suggests comparing compatible tweeter heads, harnesses or modules to investigate the fault location. Confirm the substitution procedure before doing this.
- Product cannot be fitted: confirm the vehicle and product version. C-Class and GLC parts are not interchangeable, and the factory-lighting and retrofit-lighting versions must remain distinct.
The source does not provide complete refit criteria, rotation-cycle checks, audio-test criteria or ambient-light synchronization checks. Obtain those requirements for the exact kit before treating the installation as verified.
